Lion Dancing is a tradition started in China over two thousand years ago to celebrate important events such as religious rites and festivals, weddings, or state events to bring good luck and fortune.
There are two main schools of lion dance: the northern lion (which originated in Ningbo, China) and the southern lion (which originated in Guangdong, in the south). The southern lion is divided into two sub-schools: Foshan (佛山) and Heshan (鶴山). Our school teaches the Foshan style.
Our very skilled and highly-trained Lion Dance team -- including some of us who were selected to train professionally in Foshan, China -- performs for many events including Chinese New Year, society events, grand openings and celebrations, and also some notable events like the Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative for Canada's Prime Minister and the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
Lion Dance performances are especially suitable for events such as weddings, banquets, festivals, grand openings, and community events.
